Meet the Artist
Hello, my name is Alyssa Tsukada and I am a 24-year-old Japanese-American artist. I grew up in a small town in Alaska and studied Environmental Science with a focus on marine micro-biology and climate science after moving to Washington state. I now work as a scientific instrument specialist at Western Washington University.
From a young age, I have always had an interest in art. Growing up, I experimented with styles all from all over the spectrum including: realism, graphic color blocking, and zentangle. I have also explored a variety of mediums such as graphite, ink, water color, dry pastels, and acrylic.
The art style I have today is greatly influenced by the traditional woodblock prints from the Japanese Ukiyo-e art movement. Growing up in my home, I was always surrounded by pieces inspired by that art movement. My technique of double framing and creating a stark contrast with the gold came to me after creating a list of aspects of art to which I have always felt drawn. This list consisted of Japanese landscapes, thin, clean lines, deep colors, geometric contrast, and Gustav Klimt's use of gold. By putting all of those things together, I was able to develop my art style into what you see in the artworks of Tsukada Studios!
I want to say thank you to all of those who have been so supportive of this process. I am so grateful not only to my friends and family, but also to the massive number of individuals online who motivated me to open this online shop. I see you and I appreciate you!
